ABOUT INDIGITAL
INDIGital offers Indigenous youth and newcomers five weeks of free online learning about digital literacy, community, and empowerment. We have two different courses that match participants’ different interests and needs. More details on our courses below. Join us today!
Empowerment Through Technology
A learning experience where participants are provided with opportunities to explore their heritage, traditions, culture, the issues surrounding Indigeneity, and how they can work with and contribute to their communities.
Class participants will continue their own healing process by reflecting the needs of their community and hosting an online event that addresses their community's needs. Participants will explore their own healing as they generate ideas for their event, create materials to promote their event, create materials for the event, and host the event. In doing so, active participants will gain digital literacy skills, including the foundations of digital security and privacy, how to use Google Suite, and other applications so that they can carve out space for themselves in the Western digital world.
More tech-advanced students will learn the fundamental logic behind programming and create simple code. Not only will participants be able to make a difference in their communities, they will have opportunities to hear from and network with Indigenous leaders who are contributing to their communities and also, empowerment through technology.
Empowerment Through Art
A learning experience where our participants are provided with opportunities to explore their heritage, traditions, culture, digital art, the issues surrounding Indigeneity, and how they can work with and contribute to their communities. Class participants will continue their own healing process by reflecting on their stories through the creation of a digital art portfolio.
Participants will explore their own healing as they create art (visual, auditory, or otherwise) and write reflection pieces for their digital portfolio. In doing so, active participants will gain digital literacy skills, including how to use Google Suite, Krita, Procreate, music creation programs, movie editing programs, and other applications so that they can carve out space for themselves in the Western digital world. Not only will participants be able to express themselves, they will have opportunities to hear from and network with Indigenous leaders who are contributing to their communities.
