Re-Imagining Innovation

IN THE LAST DECADE, the search for tangible and practical solutions to challenges of inclusive and sustainable development using science, technology, and innovation (STI) has been at the forefront of policies and programs by international and local agencies.

STI that focuses on understandings of being and belonging to societal groups is a potential driver of sustainable and inclusive solutions that respond to the needs of marginalized and excluded societies.

All over the world, Indigenous communities are victims of colonization, racialization, and domination, and this hinders inclusion and social development. The consequences of this processes are strongly felt in Canadian Indigenous communities, which face economic marginalization, forced assimilation, and cultural discontinuity on an ongoing basis, and can exacerbate issues like domestic violence, mental health problems, substance abuse, educational inequity, and more.
